Paige Powell moved from Oregon to New York in the early 1980s and soon became a fixture in the downtown art scene where she worked for Andy Warhol and Interview Magazine (from 1981 - 1994) where she started out selling advertising and eventually became the Associate Publisher. She quickly became a close confidante of Andy Warhol and a member of his inner circle including the likes of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Powell was constantly photographing the extraordinary everyday life that surrounded her in those days — including pivotal moments of art, culture, fashion and nightlife. Powell was also commissioned by Koyoichi Tsuzuki, the editor of Brutus and Popeye Magazine to contribute covering New York City as a freelance photojournalist from 1982-1988. Powell was also one of the first in New York to adopt camcorder technology. Today, Paige continues her work as a photographer, art advisor and her greatest life-long dedication and passion as an animal rights activist.
